Meet the Staff

The overlord, creator and ultimate bringer of knitting produce...

Sarah

Starting the business, shortly after Jesus was born, she continues to be a source of knowledge and inspiration to knitters all over the moon. Her day to day task do require her to be in many, many, many places at once; which she seems to achieve better than anyone else. Either on the phone, conversing with a customer, filling out orders, placing orders or drinking coffee if she is free she will gladly give her opinion and lend a helping hand.

In her spare time she enjoys working while in front of the television, cooking, cleaning and looking after the small arsenal of animals (not including her children) that she keeps. If she isn't doing any of these things then she might be knitting or sewing, but more likely reading a little bit of Terry Pratchet before going to sleep.

Sophisticated, calm, focused and organised... Are probably not the best words to describe

Mandy

Approachable, dedicated and helpful are more likely words which often leave peoples lips once they have encountered Outback Yarns chief supervisor.

Appearing constantly stressed, on edge and a little out of place: Mandy always strives to be as helpful as possible while trying to get all of the jobs she has assigned herself with done. Unfortunately she never seems to get to the bottom of her list of jobs, as a small army would struggle to try and finish her list of daily tasks while attending to the needs of customers. But this is what happens when the young and naive are given so much responsibility with wool. In her spare time she enjoys conversing with the none knitting community and being in the pub, but also enjoys crocheting and coming up with new ideas for patterns.

Next is daughter to the Overlord, and an Overlord herself to the world in her own mind.

Sammy

Not much of a knitter, crocheter or seamstress. Sammy doesn’t have much of an interest in the world of knitting and Sherbet the Sheep. However working in Outback Yarns you have to know your stuff and so when Sammy was younger she was shipped off to one of the highest fields in Castle Douglas. There in a hidden temple she learned all that could be learned about the ways of the wool and the yarn. How they could be manipulated to create clothing art and much, much more.
So even though Sammy is quite, content, absentminded and appears to be unsure of where she is: she is a fountain of knowledge.
In Sammy’s spare time she likes to draw, and you will often see her in the back room doodling away.

One of the newer members of the team

Fern

Officially younger than Mandy but madder than a tree ful of monkeys and wiser than her years. Very innovative Fernley has an amazing creative streak making dresses out of bin bags and tin foil. She has a natural talent for craft and will go far if we allow her to leave.Very polite and helpful to the end except when she realises it is her turn to make the coffee. Good as a model for any of our creations as she is taller than the rest of us put together.

The part time worker, that you will normally be seen cleaning or un-boxing stock

Sue

To the point and friendly, Sue tend to avoid the magical world of wool, yarn, knitting and Sherbet the sheep

Andrew

It is true that we hold men in an equal place in this establishment. This guy is our I.T man, he also often ends up embroiled in the on floor sales if he isn't fast enough on his feet and it is amazing how he somehow gets herded towards the more complicated customer situations. It is nothing personal!
